I have a job. I hate my job. I want to quit my job. But it pays me money. Here are the shoes I would like to spend all that money on.
Salvatore Ferragamo vara pump in patent.
Animal print is my favorite color. I consider it a neutral, and like great neutrals, an animal print can be added to most outfits. But my love of animal prints has moved on from leopard and cheetah prints to prints featuring the silhouettes and images of the animals themselves. Here are some literal animal prints that I want for late summer/fall.
elephant print leggings, Urban Outfitters legging $39
If you pay that much for leggings, does it automatically qualify them as pants?
elephant print scarf, Gap, $29.95
I love elephants.
Zebra scarf, ModCloth, $23.99
I got this scarf for Christmas, but I love it times a million.
Penguin dress, Lulu’s, $31
Ram bangle, J.Crew, $95
One of my favorite Arrested Development scenes/episodes
It’s almost 1AM and my alarms is set for 6:15. I tried to sleep for an hour, but ended up just giving up. I’ve got too much on my mind grapes, I guess.
So here’s my “I’m tired and I want to go to sleep, but can’t” playlist.
The Avett Brothers “Go to Sleep”
The Beatles “I’m So Tired”
One of my favorites from the second side of the White Album
Durutti Column “Sleep Will Come”
Bright Eyes “Lua”
This is such a 3AM song to me.
Bob Dylan “When the Deal Goes Down”
I just like the line “in the still of the night”
Bob Dylan “Not Dark Yet”
Last Dylan song, I swear.
Tom Waits “Warm Beer and Cold Women”
I’m not a particularly huge Joan Baez fan, but I love how she sings Percy’s Song in Dont Look Back. Plus I love that Bob’s a huge asshole in this clip and keeps typing while she’s singing.
*Bonus video of Bob showing Donovan what’s up. It’s all over now, Baby Blue
Pusha T, Blow
My friend Emily gave me the idea of making a playlist at the end of the week of the songs I’ve been listening to. Since I no longer do song of the day posts, it seemed like a good idea (and way easier) to do one post at the end of the week. I’ve been putting my itunes on shuffle a lot recently, so my songs of the week are a little rando.
Song #1 Destroy Everything You Touch by Ladytron
I was reminded of this song when I watched the first part of The September Issue this song underscores a montage of runway shows that AW goes to see.
Song #2 Made in America by Kanye West & Jay-Z ft. Frank Ocean
My current favorite off Watch the Throne
Song #3 One Day More (Original Cast) from the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert
Song #4 I’ll Keep it with Mine by Bob Dylan
Obligatory Dylan song. I have to belt out this song when I hear it. “But if I can save you any time/come on give to me, I’ll keep it with mine”
Song #5 Ashokan Farewell
Obviously, because I’m a weirdo.
Song #6 New York, New York by Frank Sinatra
Not because the Giants won the superbowl or anything, but because it’s what my roommate and I like to sing when we’re living life theatrically.
Flashback to January 2008.
I was a junior in high school, obsessed with the presidential primaries. I’ve been really interested in politics since I was a little kid. I remember pretending to be sick the day after the 2000 election so I could stay home from school and know exactly when the winner of the election was announced (that wouldn’t happen for a couple more weeks, but I didn’t know that). But January 2008 is when I knew that I wanted Barack Obama to beat Hillary Clinton for the nomination, and to go on to win the presidency. I ordered my Obama t-shirt from his website, and wore it proudly for the next 10 months. It wasn’t the cutest of t-shirts, navy blue, with the Obama 2008 logo, and it had a weird sleeve/shape to it.
But in 2012 we don’t have to sacrifice style for a political statement. http://www.runwaytowin.com has pieces from top designers (Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Derek Lam, etc) that all support President Obama’s reelection campaign. They’re a little pricey, but super stylish.
Here are my favs:
Derek Lam, $75
Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez (of Proenza Schouler), $45

One of my favorite parts of coming home for winter break (besides seeing my family/friends and eating my mom’s cooking) is shopping as much as I want. I don’t have a car at school, and don’t have a lot of time, so I don’t shop a lot. Don’t get the wrong idea. Me shopping is 90% of the time just looking at what a store has–I’m a cheapskate, I don’t like to buy things. As I texted my friend earlier today: I don’t buy anything for myself over $25 (unless it’s an amazing, investment piece bargain).
My brother and I had a disagreement at Christmas dinner over where one gets the best deals. I firmly believe that in-store, in person shopping yields the best results. You just don’t get those random, 80% off finds online. Viva la mall! This post is an illustration of the superior deals at the physical store.
Yesterday my mom and I were doing a little shopping, and happened to stop at a DSW. I had texted the same friend the day before that I wanted a “dope pair of heels” (Parks and Recreations reference), so that was what I was on the lookout for when I headed straight for the clearance section.
I found these at 80% off. They’re BCBG Paris, which I think is the shoe equivalent of BCBG Generation? Regardless it’s one of the cheaper BCBG lines. I’m obsessed with wedges, I think they’re so much tougher than a stiletto, so these will be worn often in the spring/summer to class and for going out. They were originally $69.94 at DSW (compare at $89.00) and I got them for $14.90, including tax.
Today my mom and I had lunch and went to this outdoor shopping center that’s a little further away from our house that we both like a lot (to0 bad it was raining/snowing). Obviously we hit up the DSW there as well. I’m not even that much of a shoe fanatic (I have way more pairs than I need, as the majority of the shoes I own I don’t wear anymore), but like I said, I love wedges, and I love a good deal.
These are more of a casual sandal/wedge. They’ll be perfect with a pair of loose fitting, lightweight khakis that I wear to class. The wedge is only like an inch and a half. These are SE Boutique, which is some lower price point line from Sam Edelman that I hadn’t heard of until today. They were also originally $69. 94 and I again got them for $14.90.
These shoes are a replacement pair for a very similar pair of wedges I got for like $5 from Target back in my Sophomore year of high school. I’ve worn them constantly for the last couple of years during the spring and fall, and the faux suede wedge of the shoe has gotten pretty grimy. I would get the kork ease that both shoes are ripping off, but I don’t want to drop $150. I don’t like these quite as much, but they are a better shoe, so hopefully they’ll last longer. Plus, they fit right into the 70s aesthetic that I’m a huge fan of. And they were only like $15.50 My mom bought them for me so I’m not sure of the price. Thanks, Mom!
Three new pairs of wedges, for under $45.
New Year’s resolutions are for housewives and little girls. So I’m not going to make any. I have goals all year round that include getting into really, really good shape and getting awesome grades. So the same goals I always have then.
So on to recommendations then.
If someone could recommend a way to be happy with the clothes I have, and learn how to not constantly troll Forever21 for potential new clothes, it would be greatly appreciated. Here are some items I want:
So cute. Love the pattern, not sure about the tiers, I’d have to see it in person.
I’ve never owned a halter dress before. That’s a lie I have a Rodarte for Target dress that I’ve worn like twice. But this is so perfect for the summer, going out or whatever. Someone invite me somewhere cool so I can wear this!
Also I recommend that any guy wear a denim shirt. It’s literally the best look ever. I’m obsessed with it (see previous post on denim shirts).
I’ve decided that I’m going to be more adventurous sartorially. Not to a personal style blog, I wear crazy shit that looks stupid because I’m so trendy level, but I’m going to wear things that I like and think look good without worrying about what other people think. I’m only in college for three semesters, so I only have a year and a half left of being able to wear pretty much anything on a daily basis. Here’s to expanding beyond my usual outfits. But that goal is also the reason why I want new clothes. Catch-22!
I recommend that anyone remotely interested in fashion watch The Rachel Zoe Project and It’s a Brad, Brad World. They are both hilarious and make me want to chuck all my career plans and try to work in fashion.
